Environmental
North Shore is unwavering in its commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability. Since 2002, we’ve achieved significant milestones, including reclaiming over 6,411 hectares of land and obtaining 1,853 reclamation certificates, while conducting over 36,733 closure activities. We are actively reducing our carbon footprint through initiatives like partnering with Project Forest for rewilding, embracing remote work, and adopting digital documentation. Innovation drives us – with two patents to our name, we are able to significantly minimize environmental impacts. North Shore actively supports environmental associations across Western Canada to promote education and sustainable practices, further solidifying our dedication to environmental preservation.
Social
We embrace the core value of Safety, ensuring that it factors into everything we do – we place the utmost importance on the physical and psychological health and well-being of our employees, visitors, subcontractors, suppliers, and customers. We invest in continuous safety training and maintain a comprehensive Health and Safety Management System. Our commitment to employee well-being extends to mental health, professional development, flexible work arrangements, celebrations of special occasions, and bereavement policies. We foster a sense of community through regular gatherings and team-building events, while also actively contributing to charitable organizations and local communities. Our dedication to equity, diversity, and inclusion is ingrained in our organization, promoting a workplace where every voice is valued and respected. North Shore deeply believes in developing meaningful and respectful relations built upon open communication and engagement with Indigenous communities across Traditional Lands where we work. We have developed and implemented a comprehensive Indigenous Engagement Strategy, which guides North Shore’s commitment and approach to fostering successful long-lasting relationships with Indigenous communities.
Governance
Governance is fundamental to our ESG strategy, underpinned by ethical conduct and transparency. Our governance framework is supported by robust policies and procedures, a code of Business Conduct, and ongoing leadership development. Our staff’s affiliation with regulated professional organizations ensures high governance standards and access to industry resources. External financial audits validate our financial reporting, while an Enterprise Resource Management system enhances resource management and transparency. Our commitment to governance extends to health and safety, as well as collaborative and respectful partnerships with clients, vendors, and suppliers. Our aim is to create long-term value for all stakeholders through responsible decision-making and sustainable business practices.
